Before and After #1

The Portland U.S. Custom House from last century and last Sunday:

1880 - From Commercial Street

2008, from the other side. The building looks about the same from both front and back, and I think the view I chose looks better due to the elevation.
From wikipedia...
Although the city lost to redevelopment the 1868 Greek Revival Portland Post Office by Isaiah Rogers, it retains the equally monumental 1873 Italianate Portland Custom House by Alfred B. Mullett.
Such a fine building. I wish they still build them like this! Thank for viewing and have a nice Friday.

  1. What a fantastic idea, i will mention it in my Blog tomorrow.

  2. I love these types of before and after pics, and we will take all of your snow, but it has to leave before sunset, we dont like it to overstay its welcome.

  3. Corey- Great image, I think when I first visited Portland, this was the building that left the longest impression. Thanks for sharing.

  4. Great that you have both and old view and a present day view. These make for interesting entries. {Even though Eric wants only 1 photo a day, I like to have more than one, at times...} :-)

Yes, I love old architecture. That was the reason I began my city photo blog... to capture photos of the old buildings of my city, in a Net place.

I don't always just show old buildings, but... they are my main focus.
