Mt. Bayside Expedition

I bravely trekked to the summit of Portland's tallest temporary geological feature, here is the view:

Portland, Maine Bayside Glacier Mt. Bayside March 2014 Photo by Corey Templeton

The Bayside Glacier/Mt. Bayside is one of the primary snow dumping ground for downtown's streets and sidewalks. The view below may be much improved in a few years if the Midtown project gets built on this stretch of land. If I am not here when the buildings are completed, someone should do a before and after shot using the below photo.

Night Shift

Pictured is an  Eimskip boat, the Skógafoss, docked at the International Marine Terminal along Commercial Street. The terminal will eventually be expanded and linked to a nearby rail line in order to increase it's shipping capacity.

Ocean Street

A late-evening view down Ocean Street in South Portland, looking north. I love how the Eastland hotel sign (which is now a Westin Hotel) lines up so well with the street. I might have to try this shot again with a longer lens and when it is warmer out.

University of So. Maine

A section of the Portland Campus of the University of Southern Maine on a fittingly grey day. I haven't followed the news too closely, but my alma mater has been in the news lately concerning some budget issues that have led to academic cutbacks. You can get informed about the issue by reading the student newspaper, The Free Press, or by following hashtag #USMFuture on Twitter of Facebook

Civic Center

Renovations have been completed at the Cumberland County Civic Center and an open house was held today for those of us who have been curious to see what the interior changes look like (I've already documented the exterior pretty well).

The most noticeable changes inside are the addition of "sky box suites," a new court for basketball, and new seating all around. Improvements not pictured here include expanded loading docks, new concession areas, and supposedly improved bathrooms.  I think I might have to check out a Portland Pirates game here once they return to town next season.

St. Patrick's Day Parade - Set 2

Here are some more photos from yesterday's St. Patricks Day Parade. The first two shots feature Mike Michaud, who has been the the congressman Maine's 2nd Congressional District (the largest congressional district east of Mississippi, so I've read) since 2003. He is also the de facto Democratic candidate for the 2014 Maine gubernatorial election

St. Patrick's Day Parade

The annual St. Patrick's Day parade was held today along Commercial Street. I had never seen it before, so I was surprised at how many people show up for it. Stay tuned for more photos over the following days.

Morrill Mansion

Thanks to moving the clocks forward an hour last weekend, I am now able to enjoy a bit of sunlight after work each day. It was still a very enjoyable 40-something degrees out this evening so I took a nice stroll around the West End. Here is the Morrill Mansion (now a bed & breakfast) on the corner of Vaughan and Brackett Streets.
