High Street Highway

A view of the Westin Portland Harborview (formerly the Eastland) hotel on High Street at night. Some day I need to get up to the top floor for some photos.

In unrelated news, one of my photos is nicely placed on the cover of the Portland Convention & Visitor Bureau's 2014 Event Planner's Guide (a publication aimed at event planners looking to hold gatherings in Portland). You can view the guide in digital form here

Picture of Picture

Due to the screen size, it always amuses me a bit when I see someone taking a photo with a full size iPad.

Locked In

Today's photo is from last October and is of the Fence of Love on Commercial Street. Behind the fence you can kind of see a boat and the golden yellow colors of a pleasant autumn sunset.

Snow & Plow

I imagine it has been a lucrative winter for snowplow operators in the area. Here is one off of Commercial Street last night:

Valentine's 2014

The Valentine's Bandit (or Valentine's Phantom if you prefer) has appeared for his or her 38th year. As usual I got some photos of the hearts around Congress Street. Here are two photos from this morning (I received the Valentine's gift of a delayed opening at work today), with more photos to come over the following days.

Loitering in the Snow

I can only go so long without posting a photo from Wharf Street. Here's a snow-filled scene:

Passing Through

A few shots from September that I recently edited and felt compelled to share, both taken from the Casco Bay Bridge a few minutes apart:

Just Add Snow

The public art piece named "Michael" with a fresh coat of snow from a few weekends ago. I kind of like the additional color and contrast provided by the snow, almost like when the piece was yarn-bombed a few years ago.

Eastern Promenade Winter

I didn't get a snow day today, so it's a good thing I have so many leftover photos from the last few times it snowed. The below photo from the Eastern Promenade is the sequel to this photo from October:

Snow Day Swing

An empty swing set on the Eastern Promenade Playground last month. This scene may soon be repeated if Wednesday's forecast is accurate.

Snow Light

Portland did not receive any snow this weekend, but that doesn't mean I don't have a whole bunch of photos left from the last time it snowed. This one is from Post Office Park in the Old Port:

Stroudwater Dam

Today's photo features some ice gathered at the bottom of the Stroudwater Dam. According to this entry at the Maine Memory Network, the eventual height of the dam was decided upon in order to increase the amount of ice created for a long-gone ice industry.
