Looks like another pleasant day to meander around the Back Cove. Next weekend you will see runners and walkers taking part in the Trail to Ale 10K, an annual fundraiser for Portland Trails, passing through this section of trail. There's still time to register for the race here.

Bayside Trail - November 2014

A quiet and foggy evening on Bayside Trail last week. If/when the Midtown Project moves forward on this block I'll have to remind myself to use this photo as a "before" view in a "before and after" series. 

Trail to Ale 2014

The annual Trail to Ale race, a fundraiser for Portland Trails, was held this morning. The "rain or shine" event featured 1,871 participants running or walking the scenic 10k course. I was there early as a set-up volunteer, and also got to take control of the Portland Trails Instagram account for the day. A summertime scene along Back Cove this morning. Baxter Boulevard itself (from Vannah Avenue to Payson Park) is car-free from 9am-4pm every Sunday.

Trail Weather

A fine day for a walk along the Eastern Promenade Trail, part of the Portland Trails network.  Rising above the incline on the lefthand side of the photo is the tripod mast from the USS Portland in Fort Allen Park. 

Flowing Water

I got around to trying a long-ish exposure of some flowing water a few weekends ago at Presumpscot Falls. This would have been more impressive if I had a tripod and a neutral density filter on me but I am pretty happy with what I captured.

Sundays on the Boulevard

Today was the first "Sundays on the Boulevard" event of 2014. You can read about this initiative in detail over here. To summarize, every Sunday this summer the section of Baxter Boulevard from Payson Park to Vannah Avenue is closed to cars from 9am-4pm. It was nice to see a lot of people out and about enjoying the street for various outdoor activities as I pedaled by. Pictured below are two cyclists. 

Trail to Ale 2013

Volunteering to take some photos of the Trail to Ale 10K race/walk has become a sort of annual tradition for me. This year's race, which benefits the wonderful Portland Trails organization, was held on Sunday. Although the weather was beautiful in the afternoon, it was rather rainy during the morning hours. Despite the weather, there was a strong turnout as usual and everyone seemed to have a good time. I will soon be adding a few more photos from the event to this page on my photography website.

Today is part two of a series of photos taken along the scenic Stroudwater Trail. When you want to take a break from "the big city" it's nice that there are places like this within the city limits that are quiet and relatively undeveloped. 

Better Know a Trail: Stroudwater Trail - Part 1

Here is part one of some photographs taken while exploring the Stroudwater Trail, part of the extensive and impressive Portland Trails network. This particular trail meanders along the Stroudwater River from the historic Stroudwater Village and into neighboring Westbrook. The trail runs directly behind my place of employment, so it's interesting to observe how relatively undisturbed it is.

These two photos are of the Portland Trails Trail to Ale 10k race that happend last weekend. The event, which benefits the non-profit Portland Trails organization,  started on the Eastern Prom and looped around Back Cove. I have a few more photos from the race on my photography website, here.
