Autumn on the Harbor
An autumn view of the Ocean Gateway terminal with a cruise ship docked at the Maine State Pier. This photo was taken last weekend during the annual Harvest on the Harbor event.

The Bridge Stops Here
A few alternate photos form that time I got a nice up-close view of the bridge being raised for a passing ship:

Old Port Layers
I often enjoy taking photos that make it appear as if distant objects are basically stacked upon one another. Taking photos like this can almost provide a new perspective of the built environment of Portland's Old Port.

Near and Far
A small boat passing in front of the Maine State Pier and the Casco Bay Lines ferry terminal. In the background is a cruise ship docked on the other side of the pier. I liked how I captured some movement in the small boat as it passed by.

Civic Construction
The Portland Pirates hockey team may be playing in Lewiston this year, but work continues on the interior and exterior of the Civic Center. The new entrance along Spring and Center Streets is coming along nicely and at the least is a drastic improvement over what was here before.

Return of the Eastland Sign
Nice to see the return of the Eastland sign facing Congress Square atop the soon to open (December 2013) Westin Portland Harborview hotel. You can also see part of the new "Top of the East" restaurant and lounge addition on the top floor from here. I think that the big Eastland sign atop the hotel might confuse some people who are looking for the new Westin hotel, but I'm sure they'll be able to figure it out.

Autumn in Evergreen Cemetery
A timeless view of Evergreen Cemetery with some fall foliage in the distance. I consider this cemetery a must-see for leaf-peepers who aren't able to leave the city of Portland.

Yacht of the Rising Sun
A view of the "Rising Sun," a boat that was recently docked at Ocean Gateway. What makes it particularly remarkable/photographable is that it is the "10th largest yacht in the world" and belongs to billionaire David Geffen. You can read more about this five-story, 82-room ship over here.

Game Over
Pictured today is the baseball field at Deering Oaks Park on a recent evening. There was nobody left around but the stadium lights were still on and I couldn't resist capturing the sunset in the background.

Fall Shopping
Now is a good time to stock up on your pumpkins and seasonal gourds. Here are some on display in front of the Rosemont Market & Bakery on Munjoy Hill.

Ode to the Custom House
These three photos taken earlier this evening showcase one of my favorite buildings, the United States Custom House in Portland's Old Port. It has been a landmark in our city since completion in 1872 and is still in use today as offices for some governmental agencies (although the U.S. Customs department moved out a few years ago). You can read a lot more about the building and its history here.

Oldest Sign
The sign outside of Mathew's Pub on Free Street, the self-proclaimed oldest pub and restaurant in Portland. It's not the type of place I would ever wander into, but I appreciate their signage.

Cast a Shadow
Today's image was taken during my most recent trip to the top of the Portland Observatory in early September. One of the little things that always catches my eye when I go up at sunset is the shadow that the observatory casts over its immediate surroundings:

City Line
I enjoying taking photos of the various "city line" signs around town. This particular one on the Casco Bay Bridge isn't the most interesting on it's own, but I thought it was worth a photo when the bridge happened to go up behind it while I was taking some shots on Saturday morning.
