Rock City

Looking past the breakwater underneath the Casco Bay Bridge. This is the first photo of 2013 that I've added to my "summer" gallery over at Corey Templeton Photography.

Memorial Day Parade 2013

Here are three photos of the annual Memorial Day Parade in Portland. The parade stretches from Longfellow Square to Monument Square and ends with a ceremony featuring speakers and laying wreaths on the "Our Lady of Victories" monument.

Memorial Day at the Eastern Cemetery

In honor of Memorial Day, here are a few photos around the Eastern Cemetery. The Spirits Alive group was busy yesterday placing flags for the many veterans that are buried here. This cemetery is the resting place for many revolutionary war and war of 1812 soldiers.

To the Right (Round II)

As I mentioned on my first attempt at photographing this scene, I wanted to try this shot again without completely overexposing the sky. I think this effort is slightly less interesting overall, although I do like the addition of the moving people in the scene. There were three or four people crossing the street who kind of blend into one disappearing person due to the long exposure.

Here are a few top-notch photos taken by people other than myself. Want to share some of your photos here with my 5,000 unique monthly visitors? Building Boom: May 2013

Here are some updates to my last "Building Boom" post from February.

The Bay House condos continue to rise over Middle Street:

The Hyatt Place Portland, seen here from Fore Street, rises (I'm digging the reduced traffic lanes):

Nearby we have the future Courtyard by Marriott on Commercial Street:

It looks like phase one of the Civic Center renovations, the part involving the Free Street entrance are complete.

Now onto phase two, which involves the Free Street and Center Street sides.

The Danforth on High condos are moving right along.

And the Pearl Place Phase II development in Bayside is complete:

Lower Hay Building

The H.H. Hay building at the corner of Monument Way and Free Street. The name comes from the business that used to operated out of the building, named H.H. Hay Apothecary. This is the "lower" Hay building, the other being at the top of Free Street.

Yellow Things

A classic-looking yellow bicycle parked near a yellow door on Park Street. This was a tough one to capture due to the cars parked along the street and the distance between the bicycle and the yellow door that caught my eye.
