Better Know a Trail: Stroudwater Trail - Part 2

Today is part two of a series of photos taken along the scenic Stroudwater Trail. When you want to take a break from "the big city" it's nice that there are places like this within the city limits that are quiet and relatively undeveloped. 

Better Know a Trail: Stroudwater Trail - Part 1

Here is part one of some photographs taken while exploring the Stroudwater Trail, part of the extensive and impressive Portland Trails network. This particular trail meanders along the Stroudwater River from the historic Stroudwater Village and into neighboring Westbrook. The trail runs directly behind my place of employment, so it's interesting to observe how relatively undisturbed it is. 

Better Know a Trail: Eastern Prom Trail

In this installation of Better Know a Trail, we have the Eastern Promenade Trail. Appropriately located along   the peninsula's Eastern Promenade, the Eastern Prom Trail is truly one of the city's premier outdoor spaces. As you can see by the map and description of the trail on the Portland Trails website, this trail is 2.1 miles in length and well connected with the Back Cove Trail and the Harborwalk Trail.

The Maine Narrow Gauge Railroad runs along a good stretch of this trail:

Fans of the Eastern Promenade should check out and get involved with Friends of the Eastern Promenade, a "nonprofit community organization committed to preserving the park's historic public landscape, protecting the environmental integrity, and enhancing recreational use."

Better Know a Trail: Loring Memorial Trail

In today's "Better Know a Trail," Portland Trails edition, here is the short but  excellent Loring Memorial Trail. The trail was officially opened in October 2010 and  connects North Street and Loring Memorial Park with the Eastern Promenade and Back Cove Trails. Better Know a Trail: Jack Path

For this installment, we will take a little look at a little trail. Jack Path is only about 600 feet long, but it  gets the job done. It connects Walnut Street and a section of North Street, by  the East End Community School. The path was officially established in 2007. Check out the Portland Trails website for maps and information about their many excellent trails. 

Better Know a Trail: Capisic Pond Park

Welcome to the first of thirty installments of Better Know a Trail. The number thirty is based on the 30 trails that Portland Trails has listed on their website. The first stop is Capisic Pond Park, also known as Capisic Brook Trail. I didn't take any photos of the pond itself, you can check it out in person to get the whole picture. The trail is located between Capisic Street and Brighton Avenue and the trail is a leisurely 0.5 miles long. It's a nice place for bird watching or just getting out for a quick walk.
