Renovations

The ground floor of the Schwartz Building, at Congress Square, is pictured below. The building was featured in a recent Forecaster article concerning the progress of renovations and what the hold-up is.

One of  the first big ships is in town today. It's nice to see all the tourists out and about.

Green Courtyard

This is the courtyard next to the First Parish Church on Congress Street. I've taken pictures in it and of it before, but walking by on a recent rainy evening it looked especially nice with all the greenery.

Old Port Fest 2011

Just one photo from today's 38th annual Old Port Festival. Don't let this one picture fool you, there was a large crowd as usual and lots of stuff to do. It was, as usual, lightly raining, which I think adds to the atmosphere.

Off the Peninsula

Pictured below is the prestigious St. Joseph's Convent & Hospital at 605 Stevens Avenue (thanks, Xach!). I often see the fancy gold-colored dome when looking towards the northwest from the peninsula.

Not to far from the above location is one of the city's old firehouses on Arbor Street. I'm not sure what is in the space now but the temporary dumpster on the side of the building indicates some sort of renovations.

The Eastern Waterfront

Here's a little panorama (you should be able to enlarge it by clicking on it) of the Eastern Waterfront. On the far left you will see the Hilton Garden Inn and Franklin Street (the new Hampton Inn / Sebago Restaurant building can be seen also) and on the far right you have the Ocean Gateway Terminal. In the parking lot by the terminal, which was used when we had a car ferry service to Nova Scotia, there will be a few "Concerts on the Waterfront" this summer, hosted by the State Theater.
Eastern Waterfront

Since I mentioned the new Hampton Inn Building, here's a recent photo of the completed section of the building. Sebago Brewing is now open and seems to be doing well here, I look forward to dining on the patio.

East End Cupcakes

East End Cupcakes is opening up a retail shop on Fore Street, I think they will do good business here. They might have to change the name to "Old Port Cupcakes" or something though.
