Grand Trunk Graffiti

A view of the old Grand Trunk steamship offices on India Street. The graffiti on the door is relatively new, and I don't condone such vandalism, but it is what drew me to take the photograph. The building is in rough shape, but there is the possibility that it will be renovated and incorporated into whatever ends up being developed on the surrounding lot (formerly a rail yard) in the future.

Under Veterans Bridge

I'm not sure when construction crews will start tearing down the old Veterans Memorial Bridge, so I've been busy getting some photos of it from various angles before the opportunity is gone. These photos are from underneath the bridge on the Portland side. The best way to get down here is via the railroad tracks that cross Cassidy Point Drive. Be mindful that the tracks are still in use and that the Amtrak Downeaster tracks run under the bridge also.

Graffiti Report

While exploring Portland, you've likely come across graffiti like these examples:

I like some tastefully executed graffiti, but some graffiti is not only ugly but may also be illegal. Click the   image below to check out the city's graffiti reporting website. The city is encouraging citizens to report illegal art activities via an online form, sending a text message (keyword GOTCHA, the tip in the body message, and a photo to 274637), or by calling 207-874-8972.  I applaud the city's efforts here and what appears to be a 'broken windows theory' approach to safer neighborhoods.

Green Elephant

Green Elephant is a vegetarian bistro with an Asian-influenced cuisine. It is located at 608 Congress Street, across from the State Theater.
