Sidewalk Wall Art - Part 2
I previously shared this photo of some art-in-progress by Fletcher Curran this past summer. The temporary art wall (the Schwartz Building is still be remodeled) has attracted some graffiti over the last few months, as is expected in Portland. Here's a slice of my photo from last summer blended with the current scene:
Here is the full photo from August 2013:
And here's an unedited version of the mural today:

Veterans Memorial Bridge at Night
The new Veterans Memorial Bridge, completed in 2012, from a recent night. The lighting under the structure is really a sight to see in person.

And while I was there, I got a few shots of the Casco Bay Lines terminal renovation that is underway:

You can read about the changes underway on the website of the Friends of the Eastern Promenade. Once completed in June 2014 it will more closely resemble it's original design and will reopen to the public.

Baxter Building
A look at part of the Baxter Building at 619 Congress Street. Once home to the Portland Public Library and then occupied by the Maine College of Art, it has been the home of the VIA Agency (advertising/marketing) for a few years now.

Under Construction: January 2014
Time to share a few "under construction" photos from the last few months. The Midtown development in Bayside recently got the green-light from the Planning Board, but there are several other major developments already under way.

Templeton vs. Hopper
I'm not at all educated in art, but I have always enjoyed the look and feel of Edward Hopper's paintings. Sometime last year I first stumbled upon this 1927 piece by Hopper titled "Custom House, Portland."
Since I enjoyed the painting and the Custom House has always been one of my favorite buildings in Portland, I knew a sort of "before and after" photo was needed. Here's what I came up with today, complete with the slightly titled telephone pole (perhaps done in honor of Hopper by our local utilities company?).

Cold Friday
Tonight's First Friday Art Walk ended up being a little more quiet than the previous one, due to the extremely cold temperatures and recent snowfall. Here's Congress Square about half an hour ago:
