Those Deering Oaks Lights
While it's still topical here is a recent winter scene in Deering Oaks Park. There has been a lot of melting recently, so the snow is quite unphotogenic at the moment.

Maine College of Art, Lights
Looking up at the lights by Pandora LaCasse Design on the facade of the Maine College of Art. This color combination looks pretty sharp with the MECA logo.

Throwback: Get Off My Street
A Thursday throwback to February 2010. The bumper sticker on this old car reads "GET OFF MY STREET - Commercial Street Portland."

One India Street
Renovation continues on the Grand Trunk Office Building at the corner of India and Commercial Streets. The building was listed on Greater Portland Landmarks' "Places in Peril" list in 2012. Gorham Savings Bank will have an office here once completed. The vacant lots surrounding the building (formerly part of a rail yard) are under development as well.

Hearts on Deering Street
Remnants of Valentines can be seen around town for most of February (sometimes even longer). These two hearts adorn a doorway on Deering Street.

That Snowy Day
Since it hit 50 degrees in Portland today, let's fondly look back at this scene from last week that involved lots of snow in Congress Square.

Print the Bookstore

V-Day 2017
The Valentine's Bandits were out last night brightening up our city streets with love. Here is one at the corner of State Street & Cumberland Avenue.

Middle Street Snowbank
One of my favorite shots from today's snow day walk around the Old Port. The snow really piled up out there.

Icicles at Longfellow Square
Public service announcement: Watch for falling snow and ice over the next few days. Here are some dangerous looking icicles near Longfellow Square.

Longfellow Square Snow, Feb. 2017
Fresh snow in Longfellow Square today. Trying to pace myself with the snow photos based on the expected totals over the next week.

Wharf Street, February 2017
From this evening, a bit of Friday night activity on Wharf Street. The cobblestones are actually a bit easier to navigate with some snowpack on them.

Flashback: Congress Street Blizzard, Feb. 2013
It's Thursday so here is a photo from February 2013, taken on a day much like today. It's pretty fun exploring the city when it's quiet enough to walk down Congress Street without impeding any traffic.

Congress Street Birdhouse
A nice looking birdhouse on Congress Street in the Munjoy Hill neighborhood. If I were a bird I'd flock to this neighborhood, but would prefer a home that's not at ground level.

At the Museum
Next time you check out the refreshed Portland Museum of Art, stop by this interactive display in the McLellan House part of the museum. I took a bunch of photos for the museum last fall and several of them are incorporated into this piece which shares the history of the museum's home.

Amethyst Lot, January 2017
A present-day view of the Amethyst Lot on the Eastern Waterfront. This former industrial area is owned by the city and may someday blossom into a beautiful park. I'll be sure to document the progress once things start happening here.

Long Wharf Morning
A quiet morning on Long Wharf, looking over DiMillo's Marina. One of the boats has a lamp on - I wonder if someone is living on it year-round?
