Bayside Here & Now
I know that shots like these won't hang on anyone's walls or grace the pages of any magazines, but I enjoy documenting these sorts of scenes nonetheless. In a hundred years this part of Portland might be home to the impressive Midtown project or it may be mostly underwater due to global warming. Either way, I find it interesting to imagine that my documentation of Portland in a matter-of-fact way might be as interesting to future inhabitants of the city as I find photos from the 1910's to be.
The following shots were taken atop the Bayside Glacier in March:

Photographer on the Roof
Looking towards Congress Square and Park Street from the Top of the East lounge at the Westin Portland Harborview. I'll have to get back up there with my camera on brighter day or during a sunset.

Springlike Sunday
Two shots from this morning from in front of the Nickelodeon Cinema. Looks like this tree is getting ready to bloom any day now.

Today's photos feature the newly arrived Nova Star cruise ship that will start sailing between Portland (from the Ocean Gateway terminal) and Yarmouth, Nova Scotia in May. Looks like a fine vessel.

State of Spring
A daytime view of one of my favorite buildings on State Street. I wonder if that second floor porch was added later or if it was part of the original design?

Starting to Spring
I think the plants around here were just as anxious for spring to arrive as the people. The first shot is from Post Office Park and the second is from a random front yard:

Munjoy Heights - April 2014
Construction is well underway on a new housing project known as Munjoy Heights. As you can see on the project's website, 29 new townhomes will be constructed on this formerly wooded plot of land halfway between North Street and Cumberland Avenue. As the land is on a pretty steep incline, it will be interesting to see this project rise. And I am happy to hear that "Jack Path," part of the Portland Trails network, will be reopened through here once the construction is complete.

The Question
If this sign was here at the same time as Portland's old Million Dollar Bridge, I would have called this photo "The Million Dollar Question."Alas, I wouldn't have been in Portland to take the photo back then anyhow. I assume this question mark sign once included an arrow pointing to the left to guide people to a visitor information center somewhere in the Old Port.

Turn the Corner
This often-photographed sign indicates the intersection of Winter and Spring Streets in the West End. Interestingly, a page on the nearby Portland Club's website tells us that these streets names are not related to the seasons. Instead, Spring Street is named for "a path leading to the town spring, which was located up in the West End" and Winter Street "immortalizes one of the town’s earliest settlers, John Winter."

2,000
Welcome to post number 2,000! Seems like just yesterday that I hit 1,000 posts. Today's photo is from Pine Street in the West End. The building's reflection caught my eye in a puddle of melting snow. It looks like a unit in the building is for sale if anyone is interested.
And thanks to you I have been nominated as a "best blog" in the Portland Phoenix's 2014 reader poll. Thanks! There are a ton of categories from "best art gallery" to "best place for yoga/pilates" so you should make sure your favorite things/places win.

Portland's Far West End
Today's photo features the cherry blossoms along our ever-scenic Willamette River, looking towards the Steel Bridge:
Just kidding, of course! Today's April Fools Day photo is courtesy of Lynette, the photographer behind the Portland, Oregon Daily Photo blog. Check out her blog or her Flickr for more great shots of the west-coast Portland.
