Looking towards City Hall from Somerset Street in the Bayside neighborhood. Note the circular window below the City Hall clock tower that retained its view after the buildings on the left (the expanded Merrill Auditorium) and the right (Chestnut Street Lofts) were built.

Brick Skyline
A brick-themed rooftop view from the Portland Museum of Art. This view has a certain timelessness to it, don't you think?

Thomas at Pine
Here's a photo near the intersection of Thomas and Pine Streets in the West End. Despite walking by it so many times, I never noticed how perfectly the sidewalk and the trees (minus any leaves) frame this shot. I set up to get a shot with my longer lens (the Nikon 70-300mm) to blur out the tree branches a bit. I only had to a wait a few seconds for a person and their dog to stroll by.

Icy Night
An icy fire escape on Union Street in the Old Port. As long as I don't have to walk over it, I often admire the shapes that frozen water takes.

January Sunset
This evening's sunset from Munjoy Hill. You can see a group of sledders and their dog ascending the hill on the left. I wasn't sure if there was going to be a decent sunset when I set out (I live in the West End) and was pleasantly surprised by the time I hiked over here.

Throwback Thursday - September Sunset
Before I post more snow photos, let's take a look back at a sunset from last September. This view towards the west is from an upper floor of the Holiday Inn.
Downtown Snow
From a snowy day outside of Portland Downtown. Formerly named the Portland Downtown District, Portland Downtown is "in the business of maintaining a clean and safe downtown while building and promoting a vibrant business, residential and tourism destination."

Tree in the Square
Looking up at the Christmas tree in Monument Square, from earlier this evening. Although the distortion is rather extreme (due to using a 14mm lens on a full-frame DSLR), I kind of like the look. Sometimes it's fun to walk around with this particular lens just to get a completely different perspective on things.

Hello 2016
Happy 2016! I wish you all a happy and healthy new year. This seems to be an appropriate time to share some changes on this blog as the year progresses.
When I started this Portland Daily Photo project way back on January 1, 2008 (here's the first post) I clearly didn't know what I was getting into. Over the years I have grown as a photographer and the hobby has developed into a full fledged side business. I will continue to take more photos of Portland than anyone would ever need, but in order to continue growing and challenging myself I may not be posting every day in the future. This will allow me to focus on creating high quality content (not just high quantity content) while also opening doors to new challenges and opportunities.
So continue to follow me on this blog, as well as the following places:
