A reflection of the The Westin Portland Harborview Hotel (formerly the Eastland) in a window of the Williston-Immanuel United Church at the corner of Deering and High Streets.

Lincoln Middle
A look at Lincoln Middle School, located in the Deering Center neighborhood. The building operated as a high school from 1899-1923, at which point Deering High School was built just down the road.

Rain on Congress
It's a rainy evening in the little city of Portland. I enjoyed all the interesting reflections along Congress Street from this spot.

Looking Up: Exchange & Middle
From the corner of Exchange and Middle Streets, looking up towards the old First National Bank building. According to the Maine Historical Society, the building was designed by Henry Van Brunt and built in 1884. A few other notable buildings designed by Van Brunt's firm, Van Brunt & Howe, include the iconic Union Station in Portland, Oregon, and the Cambridge Public Library in Massachusetts.

Above the Pub
A busy Brian Boru pub beneath a St. Patrick's Day message on the Time and Temperature Sign. This is about as close as I'd dare get to a bar today!
St. Patrick's 2016
From the local Irish American Club’s annual St. Patrick’s Parade down Commercial Street, last Sunday.

City Flag
Did you know Portland has a city flag? It's basically just the city seal set against some blue cloth plus yellow text.
But ever since a TED Talk by Roman Mars ("Why city flags may be the worst-designed thing you've never noticed") from last year hit the internet there has been a growing sentiment that we should redesign it. Portland, after all, is home to a lot of creative folks who could surely make a better looking flag that represents our fair city.
The Bangor Daily News, in collaboration with some local folk such as Ben Coursey, a "Casco Bay High School student and flag aficionado," are holding a contest to come up with a new design to bring forward. Check it out here, and enter by March 28th.

Downtown
If you find yourself in the downtown district, keep an eye out for some of the brand new Portland Downtown banners that feature my photos. Here are three of them on Congress Street.

That's a Paddlin'
Saw some paddle boarders heading out from Two Lights in Cape Elizabeth this afternoon. It looks pretty calm in this picture but there were some impressive waves coming in.

Deja Vu
Deja Vu - For "Throwback Thursday," here is an appropriately named lobster boat pulled up to a beach near the Casco Bay Bridge last April.

All Around the World
Nice to see more 'feet on the street" this past week as the weather gets slightly warmer. Pictured here is where Franklin and Commercial Streets intersect, and the piece of public art is "Untitled-Armillary," a sculpture made by Maine metal sculptor Patrick Plourde.

Night Market
A section of Market Street, between Milk and Middle Streets, from a recent night. The front of these buildings face Exchange Street, but there is some interesting stuff happening on the Market Street side as well.

Commercial St. Dusk
Commercial Street, just after sundown. Leaving the shutter open for 10 seconds allowed enough time for the car lights to blur, without overexposing the rest of the image.
