This isn't the type of photo that the Eastland Park Hotel would use to advertiste their establishment, with the plywood in the windows and whatnot, but it's a good sign of the improvements that are taking place. As stated on their website, the hotel will be re-opening in the Spring of 2014 after a very extensive renovation project. When it is open for business again it will officially be part of the Westin Hotel franchise. I look forward seeing this landmark building all spruced up, although it's going to take a lot of work to beautify the brutalist-style addition on the north side of the building as pictured below.
Unrelated to the above (sorry I've been saying that a lot lately), check out the July/August 2012 issue of Portland Magazine to see a couple of my photos on pages 22 and 23. THAT'S why I couldn't get a room this summer...their website did not yet reflect the news of the closure and renovation; but their availability calendars looked like the place was completely booked all summer and fall. It sounds like it will be a quality, thoughtful project.
ReplyDeleteThe tower addition when complete was called just that "The Eastland Tower" complete with its' own check-in area, valet car parking, and even a car turn in to leave the car while checking in. It was a very big deal it its' day.
