These photos were taken back in May and are of an old factory on Read Street. Although the building seems to be partially occupied, it's in rough shape and therefore quite photogenic. I can't help but to wonder what it it looks like inside and what the view from the roof is like.
Where is Read St.? And is the part thats partially occupied connected to the yellow part? because the yellow looks freshly painted. the up close shots remind me of that old building in the ferry village section of south portland. i'll venture inside the read st building with you sometime!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the comment. Read Street runs roughly from Morrill's Corner to Chevrus High School. It looks like the first floor of the building is occupied but not sure about the rest.
DeleteIf I remember the past correctly, it was the American Can Company for many years. After they moved out, L.L. Bean rented space for a while along with other tenants.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the insight, John. With a little TLC the building could probably support several businesses again. I didn't post any pictures of it but the backside of the building even has direct access to active railroad tracks.
