Under Construction: January 2014

Time to share a few "under construction" photos from the last few months. The Midtown development in Bayside recently got the green-light from the Planning Board, but there are several other major developments already under way.

First up is the nearly completed Bay House condo project:

  1. Oh cool, I like these updates. I noticed the windows on the Hyatt last week, and I think they're kinda weird. Why not just rectangular windows and straight lines? I feel like these kinds of architectural details are the one that make a building look outdated or of a certain era in a hurry.

  2. Kate-
I like when architects and designers mess with my head a bit. Check out the "Dancing House" in Prague and the "Stata Center" in Cambridge (Boston) for crazy windows by Frank Gehry. What a great sense of whimsey and challenge for the engineers! They are too unique to be put in the outdated category.

    1. That's fair - I was thinking as I typed that comment that someone could argue that predictable details are corporate and soulless. I appreciate the unexpected, and those two buildings you mention are definitely different!
