I suggested the installation of a reflecting pool down here back in August (see this post). The puddle here has continued to exist all year long, perhaps in homage to the prior geography of this area (some of Bayside was once underwater as part of Back Cove). Since it is now winter time, I suggest the installation of a skating rink. Perhaps the Pirates could even play a season or two down here so a new civic center can be built.
But we must act fast to put up the skating rink, as the city has used this lot for dumping snow removed from city streets and sidewalks the last several winters. Here it is today:
Here it is once we find some plywood and a zamboni:
what a great idea -- i would totally skate there!
ReplyDeleteThis is the best idea ever.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea Corey. A wasted space turned into something useful and fun for all. It will bring a little more life to and area that has been forgotten for many years.
ReplyDeleteSorry for the spelling errors in my previous post. But the pic also contains a building on the left which was at one time the A & P warehouse. The pic really shows how large the building was for it's day.
ReplyDeleteGood one, Corey. Great illustration. I hope you don't mind I posted this on Rights of Way.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the comments, everyone! Cneal - no problemo.
ReplyDeleteCorey Templeton,
ReplyDeleteBy nature I am usually quite critical when an occasion arrives where I wish to comment on something I see on the net. But after seeing this rink...(assuming this really did form because of your suggestion)...I just want to say that you are a good thing for a city I love quite dearly. I hope you stick around for a long time.
That would be incredible. I noticed last week, on my walk to school that it's almost completely frozen. I'm tempted to try skating on it. A "proper" skating rink would be much better however. Is there any way to actually propose such a thing to the city? A new skating rink would be perfect next to the new trail and would look great with a little green space/park area, benches, etc...
