Happy 4th! Check out this press release from city hall if  you are looking for information about the fireworks and Portland Symphony Orchestra event tonight on the Hill. The Patriotic Pops concert starts at 7:40 and the fireworks at 9:20.

East End Construction

An aerial update on the former Jordan's Meat Factory site. Someday soon this will be the site of a Hampton Inn on the Franklin Street side. The rest of the site will be parking that can be developed at a later time. 

And looking north, we see the site that will maybe someday be The Bay House. Not sure about the status of this one but they better start foundation work soon if they still want to be open in fall 2011.

Summer's Here and the Time is Right

I thought this Ford Falcon parked on Casco Street had a good look to it, or at least it's taillights were interesting to me. Here it is from a couple angles. 

Also on Casco Street, this telephone pole (which still appears to be carrying two wires) is in rough shape.

I've seen this bike around town a few times. I bet it's worth its weight  in gold.

Congress and Park Streets

LL Bean Outlet

The LL Bean outlet store on Congress Street will be leaving later in September. As seen in the news a while back, they decided not to renew their lease and will focus their  efforts more on the outlet in Freeport. There has been a bit of discussion about  what may move into this prime spot but I haven't heard about any  final decisions. I like the proposal of splitting the space up for a few different uses. what would  you like to see  most?

Gorham's Corner

These are a few shots of the Gorham's Corner area, which is between the Old Port and  the West End. It was once home to primarily Irish immigrants and is a pleasant part of town with some quality housing and small businesses and restaurants.
