Lincoln Park Fountain

The fountain in Lincoln Park is undergoing some sort of renovations. I'm assuming it will be up and running again for the 5th annual Picnic Music & Arts Festival on August 25th. 

Here's a photo of the very same fountain, taken in the 1910's, via the Library of Congress Website.

New Eastland

This isn't the type of photo that the Eastland Park Hotel would use to advertiste their establishment, with the plywood in the windows and whatnot, but it's a good sign of the improvements that are taking place. As stated on their website, the hotel will be re-opening in the Spring of 2014 after a very extensive renovation project. When it is open for business again it will officially be part of the Westin Hotel franchise. I look forward seeing this landmark building all spruced up, although it's going to take a lot of work to beautify the brutalist-style addition on the north side of the building as pictured below.

Unrelated to the above (sorry I've been saying that a lot lately), check out the July/August 2012 issue of Portland Magazine to see a couple of my photos on pages 22 and 23. Hay Ball

This photo is the the compact car with a hay ball on the roof traveling down Congress Street on a recent Frist Friday. The hay ball and it's owner, Michael Shaughnessy, will be making a documentary called "Wonderment: The Hay Ball's Journey Across America." Check out  all the details of this adventure on the Kickstarter campaign for the project.

Conversing

Two people conversing at Sonny's Restaurant in the Old Port. I've had this one sitting round for a few months and figured I might as well share it. The dramatic lighting through the window and onto the woman  (and the lack of lighting on the other person at the table) caught my eye. It might look like it, but I wasn't going for an undercover spy type of photo and was just using my 50mm lens.
