Gardening

Some sort of little community garden on Munjoy Hill next to the East End School.

And the view in the other direction (on a different day)

Panoramic Portland

Panoramic from the Holiday Inn, click for larger view. The large building in the middle foreground, some sort of YMCA (or was it YWCA?) affiliated building was torn down last year and the lot awaits development.

Monument Square, Summer

Still working on the internet situation, in the meantime 'new' posts will be from the archives. As I am posting from work, I can't upload and new shots but have access to some older stuff that is already being stored online.

Mr Blue Sky

Pardon the lack of a daily photo for the last two days, the internet wasn't working at home this weekend, and wasn't this morning either. (Currently 'sharing' a wireless connection so it randomly stops working sometimes) I have some older photos hosted on a web site that I can access at work during times like these, so here's one from the archives.

Fishing

A small portion of the working waterfront. I do believe the temperature hit 80 degrees Fahrenheit (26 Celsius) today.

Before and After #3

A before and after of the current 'Post Office Park' in the Old Port, former site of a post office, pictured above, from here. The picture below wasn't taken with the intention of doing a before and after segment, but it gets the job done. There are not always clowns present here but it's a nice touch.

I'm not sure when the old post office was demolished (long before I was born, I'm guessing the 50's or 60's), but I do know that the space it occupied was a dirt parking lot for a few decades before becoming a nice little park. I think the post office here was a beautiful structure, but the park makes for a nice public area and doesn't make this part of the old port feel any less dense.

Mt. Washington

A photo from last May, of Mt. Washington, which is 68 miles away in New Hampshire and stands as the highest peak in the northeastern United States at 6,288 feet(1,917 meters). On clear days it can be seen from certain parts of Portland. I just checked the Mt Washington Observatory site and it looks to have about the same amount of snow on top right now as it did when this picture was taken. Here's a current webcam shot.

A fact verified by wikipedia....

Mount Washington holds the world record for directly measured surface wind speed, at 231 mph (372 km/h), recorded on the afternoon of April 12, 1934.
