Bay of Casco

A more tourist-friendly view (compared to Monday's photo) of a Casco Bay Lines ferry on the way to Peaks Island. Behind the ferry you can see Bug Light Park and some people flying kites, Spring Point Ledge Light, and some old fortifications on House Island.

First Parish Church

Pictured today is the recently renovated steeple atop the First Parish Church at 425 Congress Street. I learned today via The Forecaster that the church's clock is the state's oldest, dating back to 1802. I captured a few other public timepieces in this post from last summer, and now I feel compelled to document them all.

Under Cover of Darkness

The Casco Bay Lines ferry named Machigonne II departing the State Pier for Peaks Island last night. This particular vessel was built in 1987 and has a capacity of 399 passengers and up to 12 vehicles.

It's Like a Jungle Sometimes

Looking towards the Ocean Gateway marine terminal from an empty lot. The lot was once where the Grand Trunk railroad terminal and grain elevators stood many years ago. Here is a neat old photo of the terminal.

Under Construction: July 2013

Time again to check in on some of the major construction projects happening around the peninsula. I always enjoy seeing photos of buildings that were under construction from long before I was born. It's funny how often when a building is completed it kind of becomes hard to imagine what it was like before it was there. Maybe a hundred years from now someone will stumble upon these photos (presumably in printed form due to the Internet being destroyed in World War IV, the Great War of Canadian Aggression) and they try to imagine what it was like seeing Portland from my perspective. Okay, I'll just share the photos now.

#RememberHonorActME

Today was a beautiful summer day, made more enjoyable by the temperature only reaching the lower 70's today. I ended up taking a roundabout route home from work on my bicycle and went past some sort of rally happening in Monument Square. After dropping my bike off at home I went back and got a few photos of the event which went by the hashtag #RememberHonorActME. The event had several speakers from local organizations and nonprofits and touched upon issues relating to gun violence, racial profiling, the criminal justice system, and community safety.

Port Land

he
The "Port Land" sign in the upper windows of this building at 533 Forest Avenue caught my eye today.  It appears that the Midcoast School of Music currently occupies the top floor. As you can see by the logo in the top center portion of the facade, this building was once a Studebaker automobile dealership.

Monument Square Alfresco

A view of some of the restaurants in Monument Square, including David's Opus Ten, David's, Shay's, Wannawaf, and Others!.

And if you were in the square today you would have seen a performance art piece of some sort. I think it was by Kate Gilmore who is one of MECA's visiting artists this summer.

The reflections and colors on the sidewalks when it's raining at night always catches my eye.

A Sunset Doesn't Last All Evening

Portland, Maine Summer 2013 Skyline and Sunset by Corey Templeton
A picturesque sunset from High Street in South Portland. If I lived in the house that owns this yard, I would basically just take photos of the Portland skyline every day and night.

And on personal note, which is rare for this blog, today I attended my Grandmother's funeral. She was very much a fan of my photography and was always supportive of me through the years. I will miss her a lot and I thought it would be nice to dedicate this photo in her memory. Sunsets, in addition to often being beautiful, are good visual reminders that all things must pass (and by extension, we should all try to make the world a better place during those precious hours of daylight).

Peaks to Portland

The annual Peaks to Portland swim was held this morning, a pleasant day for such festivities. The event is a fundraiser for the YMCA of Southern Maine. Here are a few photos:
