Flashback: New York, May 2016

Three Throwback Thursday photos from a visit to the fine city of New York City last May. Sometimes processing photos in black and white brings out different things that I didn't notice originally.

Lower Manhattan Layers

From my New York trip back in May, a look at the layers of buildings in Lower Manhattan. I've always enjoyed the effect layering different elements in a photo, so this is a great spot to practice that.

Walk on the High Line, NYC

Still working through my NYC photos from last week. Today's three shots are from the High Line. Per Wikipedia, the High Line is a "1.45-mile-long linear park built in Manhattan on an elevated section of a disused New York Central Railroad spur." As someone who loves reading about urban design and issues related to walking/cycling, I recall following along with this project when construction first started in 2006. So it was great to finally experience it in person!

NYC Ferry

From last week, some views from the ride back to the city aboard the Staten Island Ferry. It was well worth the cost (free)!

Gapstow Bridge in Central Park

The iconic Gapstow Bridge in New York's Central Park. This version of the bridge dates back to 1896. I've seen a lot of cool shots from this general angle, so I had to put my own spin on it when I saw it on the map.

Grand Central

I just got back from a five day trip down to NYC. As a fan of cities and history, it's been on my to do list for a long time. I was primarily spending quality time with my girlfriend and her friend who we were staying with, but I still got to grab a few photos here and there from Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens. So stay tuned for those.
