Old Port Arch

A glance up Moulton Street towards the facade of 375 Fore Street, which has been home to Bull Feeney's Irish pub/restaurant since 2002. You can read about the history of this historic building and its various tenants over here.

Oh, Christmas Tree

From the annual tree lighting ceremony in Monument Square this evening. It was a much warmer event than last year, but I'm confident that winter will be arriving soon.

Oxbow

A peek inside the Oxbow Beer tasting room off of Washington Avenue. The main Oxbow Brewery is located up in Newcastle, but they handle the brewing and bottling of their "funky" and "sour" beers at this relatively new Portland location.

You Say You Want a Revolution

The current view from one of the old scrap yards in Bayside between the Bayside Trail and Somerset Street. The area will go through a revolution of sorts once work begins on the mixed-use Midtown development. The 3.5 acre Midtown development is slated to bring over 400 new (and much needed) residential units to the city as well as additional retail space.

Custom House, November 2015

The historic U.S. Custom House with the warm glow of the early morning sun, viewed from Commercial Street. This photo also features what I assume is Portland's official bird, the seagull.

Still Standing

The "padlocks of love" are still affixed to this small fence along Commercial Street, between Portland Lobster Company and Long Wharf. Earlier this year, locks were cleared from the famous Pont des Arts bridge in Paris due to structural concerns. So we will see how long the Portland fence stays upright.

Light Season

I saw that the holiday lights in Congress Square Park were illuminated on Saturday. It appears to have been a test run since they weren't lit up last night, but they should be back on soon. I look forward to photographing the lights and Pandora LaCasse's light sculptures every winter.

An Autumn Sight

These trees near the corner of Commercial Street and Union Wharf are a sight for every season. I've documented them each spring when the leaves are a brilliant mixture of purple and white, and this time of year they get that nice dark yellow shade. From a compositional perspective, this set of trees also frames the sidewalk quite well.

The Gothic House

The John J. Brown House (also known as "The Gothic House") is one of many properties in Portland that is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The house dates back to 1845, but has only been in it's current location on Spring Street since 1971. The structure was moved at that time to make way for the Holiday Inn complex. For more info, check out the Greater Portland Landmarks website.
