Tunnel Vision

Some recent photos from the old train tunnel under Beach Street. This post from last summer shows the other end of the tunnel. I'll be posting some more photos from this area soon. Do you prefer the color or black & white version of this?

Before & After: Jordan's/Hampton Inn

Here's a before and after set with two of my own photos. The before is from April 2010 and shows the old Jordan's Meat factory on the corner of Franklin and Fore Streets. The after photo was taken this month and shows the Hampton Inn (plus Sebago Brewing Co. on the ground floor) that now occupies the space.

Crema Coffee Company

A new coffee place called Crema Coffee Company opened today at 9 Commercial Street. It is operated by the same folks who run Arabica Coffee on Free Street. I stopped by this morning for an iced coffee and some photos of their beautiful space.

The exterior view.

From the entrance area.

Cozy seating near the fireplace.

From the back of the space.

At the rear of the space you can also watch the coffee roasting process in the kitchen area.

And next door, we also have the recently opened Rosemont Produce Company, which is operated by the folks at Rosemont Market.

Between Crema, Rosemont Produce, the soon to be opening Blue Lobster Urban Winery, and the many existing dining places on Middle Street, this part of the peninsula is really booming!

And this "after" photo is from last week. Not taken from exactly the same spot, but close.

Springing

It's kind of a spring tradition for me to get some photos in Tommy's Park of mother nature coming back to life. As I say every year, it's great coming home from work on weekdays and having some daylight left to enjoy. In addition to the devastatingly beautiful temperatures we've been having lately, I know spring is on the way when these trees and flowers in the park start to blossom.

Survey

My "official photography website," Corey Templeton Photography, has been open for almost a year now. It has been a great first year and I look forward to a few more. If you have visited the site, I'd be happy to hear your feedback about how the photographs are organized and also on the pricing of the products. You are invited to complete this quick survey to offer your thoughts. Upon completion, you will receive a coupon code for 30% your next order on the site (this isn't a sales pitch, no pressure to buy anything). You can also contact me any time with suggestions or comments about how to improve the site. Thanks!

Night Bike

A bicycle and its shadow on Free Street. This was taken last night with my new lens. It's funny how 10 days ago we had no snow, then we got over a foot of snow in a day, and now there is no snow again.

Wide Angle Congress Square

I very recently got a new lens, my first real wide-angle (a Sigma 10-20mm f/4-5.6 if you're interested in that kind of stuff). I took it out for a spin tonight and am really impressed with it so far. I guarantee you will be seeing a lot of shots with this lens going forward. It certainly opens up a lot of new creative photo opportunities.

Stick in the Mud

A literal stick in the mud, with the Portland skyline in the background. This "stick" is actually part of an old pier of some sort, I presume, and is about 10 feet tall.

Grand Trunk Office

As you can tell from the lack of snow in these photos, they were taken prior to Thursday's snow storm. I still have hundreds of photos taken over the last month that I haven't posted yet, which will be easy spot due to the missing snow. Anyhow, here are some photos of the Grand Trunk Railroad office building at the end of India Street. I posted a photo of the old signage under the fire escape here last weekend. You might be interested in this before and after post of the area from a few years ago also. The lot surrounding the building, which will be developed eventually, has been fenced in for several years now and the gate happened to be opened as I was bicycling by so I had to wander in for some shots.
