Ford Came Back

The cherry blossoms are starting to appear behind the John Ford statue at Gorham's Corner. Mr. Ford, a Portland native, is one of the directors featured in the new Netflix series "Five Came Back." The shows looks at the contributions of five famous directors during World War II.

Maple & York

Looking up Maple Street from York Street, in what I would consider to be the Gorham's Corner section of the peninsula.

Staples School

An aerial view of the old Staples School at 70-74 Center Street. The school, which is near Gorham's Corner,  became office space in 1980 according to this interesting Maine Irish Heritage Trail article.

Pleasant Street Park

These photos are from Pleasant Street Park, which is a small city park on Pleasant Street (how convenient). The park features some seating, a playground, and a basketball court. Don't let my photos of the graffiti around the park give the impression that it isn't cared for and family-friendly.

Official Pleasant Street Park sign and playground in the back. There are a few benches along Pleasant Street to the right of this sign.

In the back of the park, behind the basketball court. Above and behind this wall is Spring Street and the Civic Center.

One of the borders of the park.

Some of the graffiti.

Gorham's Corner

These are a few shots of the Gorham's Corner area, which is between the Old Port and  the West End. It was once home to primarily Irish immigrants and is a pleasant part of town with some quality housing and small businesses and restaurants.

Here's  a little map of the area with numbers corresponding  to where the photos above were taken.
