Bill's

Bill's Pizza, since 1949, is a pretty popular Old Port pizza destination at night.

In completely unrelated news, it's supposed to snow again tonight and tomorrow. According to the local weatherman...
"As of this morning Portland has received 90.7 inches of snow since
December first making this the fifth snowiest meteorological winter since
snowfall records began in 1882."

Hopefully I shall be able to get out and take some picture this weekend!

Solitary

Just a building on Congress Street. Appears to be an apartment building.

San Francisco of the Northeast?

I'm not too confident that my car could make it up this street in these conditions. Munjoy Hill is a neighborhood on the peninsula, rising about 160 feet above sea level I do believe.

P-Town

I've always associated 'P-Town' with Provincetown, Massachusetts, but it works for Portland too.

Slip Slidin'

Looking towards Commercial St., from high above. Parking garages provide some excellent views of the urban environment, and are much easier to gain access to than most private structures!

Western End

Hello longtime, first-time, and hopefully not last-time visitors. Today's view is of a small piece of land in the West End, as viewed from the south. Although I am ready for summer, I must say that Portland looks pretty good in the colder months.

Red brick

As you may have noticed, Portland has a lot brick buildings.

Last Summer

In honor of today's warm temperatures (it was in the mid-40s!), here is a picture from last summer. The Casco Bay bridge, as mentioned in yesterday's post, is up and letting a ship pass.

Tug

Another winter scene, looking at the freight terminal, with the Key Bank building in the background. This shot is from beneath the Casco Bay Bridge. As I learned a couple months ago in the Portland Press Herald, the water freight industry is making a comeback in the area as it is becoming more competitive with trucking as fuel costs rise. The same goes for trains.

Hurray for my wireless internet signal which is now working about 40% of the time again. :-)

Snow and Ice

A recent snow and ice event, as seen on Congress St. near Congress Square.
