Better Know a Bridge - Tukey's Bridge

Bridge number 3088, otherwise known at Tukey's Bridge. The current bridge connecting the Munjoy Hill and East Deering neighborhoods has been in service since 1960. According to the Maine Memory Network, the first bridge in this spot dates to 1796 and was named after tavern owner and toll-collector Lemuel Tukey.

Monument Square in the Mist

A view of Monument Square from one of the foggy evenings last week. Brick sidewalks tend to provide some interesting reflections when they are wet.

Grace on Chestnut Street

Looking down Chestnut Street towards Cumberland Avenue. The former church building on the right was built in 1856 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It has been home to the restaurant Grace for several years now.

A blanket of fog covered Back Cove yesterday afternoon. Looks like it's much the same this morning.

Port Co.

A look towards the sprawling Portland Company Complex between Fore Street and the waterfront. Occasionally I like to share these less-interesting photos in order to simply document the way things are at the moment. And it sets me up to do an "after" photo from this spot in a few years when it looks different.

What's New on Maine Wharf

The new building on Maine Wharf is starting to come to life. The first floor on the side closest to Commercial Street will be the new home of Casco Bay Artisans, while the other end will be occupied by a new upscale seafood restaurant named Scales. A new organization/museum/exhibit space, the Portland Science Center, will occupy some of the upper floors.
