Eastern Cemetery, Autumn 2014

Pictured today is a recent sunset above the Eastern Cemetery. The Spirits Alive organization, which is dedicated to the preservation and beautification of the Eastern Cemetery is currently hosting evening "Walk Among the Shadows" tours, details here. Sounds like a good Halloween-themed activity!

McLellan School Building

Pictured today is the former McLellan School on Neal Street in the West End. In the spirit of creative reuse, the building has been condominiums for many years now. If the family name of McLellan sounds familiar, you might find this site to be an interesting read. The family first settled in Portland in the 1700's, and Major Hugh McLellan became an important shipping magnate. And one Jacob McLellan was the mayor of Portland during part of the Civil War. Another prominent building which bears the family name is the McLellan-Sweat Mansion on the corner of High and Spring Streets, now part of the Portland Museum of Art,

Thompson's Point - October 2014

It was announced at the end of September that the Point's future concert venue will be managed by the manager of the State Theater, which sounds very promising. Here are two shots from around the edge of the peninsula. You can see some of my previous coverage of Thompson's Point here.

Stroudwaterfall

A recent view of the waterfall/dam at Stroudwater Village. This was taken last Saturday and there wasn't much foliage in the direct area so I decided to focus on the water itself.

Historic Western Cemetery

Here are three photos from the historic Western Cemetery, conveniently located in the West End. Per the city website, this cemetery was the "primary burial ground from 1829 until 1852 (when Evergreen Cemetery was established)" and it "remained active until 1910."

2015 Portland, Maine Calendar

Since today is the first of October and it's starting to feel like fall again, I think it's a good time to officially announce my 2015 calendar! You can preview each month's photo before buying for the (I think) reasonable price of $24.

When you buy a calendar or a photo from my website, you not only get that physical product but also allow me to continue investing in my photography for years to come. And like last year, anyone who prefers to buy the calendar in-person will soon be able to pick up a copy or two at Old Port Card Works on Moulton Street.
