Off the Peninsula

Pictured below is the prestigious St. Joseph's Convent & Hospital at 605 Stevens Avenue (thanks, Xach!). I often see the fancy gold-colored dome when looking towards the northwest from the peninsula.

Not to far from the above location is one of the city's old firehouses on Arbor Street. I'm not sure what is in the space now but the temporary dumpster on the side of the building indicates some sort of renovations.

  1. Is that domed building part of Catherine McAuley? I believe it's actually 605 Stevens, the former St Joseph's Sisters of Mercy convent, which was recently closed and is going to be converted into retirement apartments.

  3. Thanks for the comment, Xach! I have updated the post to reflect this info. I had assumed it was part of the school as it seems to share an entrance with the school. It's certainly a beautiful building, seems like it will make nice housing for the elderly.

  4. Hey there! I graduated from McAuley in 2009. The building with the dome is connected to what we call the 'Academy' - there are some classrooms that are still in use along with the school chapel and some administrative offices. No idea what they plan to do with it, though!
