USM Wishcamper Center

The Wishcamper Center on the University of Southern Maine - Portland campus is home to the Muskie School of Public Service, among other things I assume. It was recently opened and I think it turned out pretty well. Some neat facts about the building can be found here, such as:

-The building is heated and cooled by geo-thermal energy from wells drilled 1,500 ft. into the earth.
-Rain water is being collected off the roof and recycled.

Fall Colours

As spotted a few minutes ago from the USM library, a few leaves are changing from green to orange. Where did the summer go?

And here are some rain drops on the window.

Buy a real Yard Follow Up

From the USM parking garage recently (I had some skyline shots but they didn't come out as clear and crisp as I wanted). For some interesting reads about this and other development in bayside, check out the Forecaster in print and online.

How strange that this post was linked to by two sources yesterday. PortlandPsst! send me plenty of visitors and linked to an article on the subject here. I'm not sure if they were being serious (or how they found my blog), but a person on a random forum linked to the picture from here and claims that it is their sister's truck. If I knew that more than 10 people were going to look at this photo I would have gone to the other side and got a nicely framed shot with the owner(s) out in front instead of taking a quick shot from across the road. Maybe next time!

Also, if you type "help me buy a real yard" into google, my post is the first search result. Score.

technicolour

Just playing with photoshop.

The wireless connection I was using at the apartment has vanished, and I swear I am getting my own internet soon (possibly Friday). Stay tuned.

Also, someone in a forum linked to the photo I posted a few days ago, of a pick-up truck with the 'help me buy a real yard' sign on it and plants growing in the bed. Thanks for the publicity!

Picnic

An unidentified band playing at last weekend's "Picnic music and arts festival" at Lincoln Park. It appeared to be quite a success with a lot of people present. I hope they make this (at least) an annual event.

Lamp

A light in front of the courthouse. Black and white is the only way to go with this one.

Brick, House

The point of this picture is to make the viewier ask which building is closer. There is an alley between the two buildings. Also, it shows off some nice old brick.

Black Gold

Looking at a small portion of the South Portland waterfront which faces Portland. I wonder how hard it is to move oil tank operations and the tanks themselves? There are a lot of tanks in the formerly industrial area of Spring Point and if they weren't there we would have some very valuable waterfront property with great views of Portland.

Darkness settles in on the intersections of Temple, Union, Spring, and Middle streets.
If anyone has a flickr account, here is my account. Always looking for new contacts.

Intermed update

Just an update on the progress of the Intermed Building in Bayside. A nice blue sky in the background too.

New Address

Moved into the apartment, it's in the building pictured above. We get a weak wireless signal so I will be posting most every day. Happy Labor Day!
